2. Lyell Spring/Summer 2008: Ruffled & Miffed

Let me get one thing straight: I love Lyell and their sophisticated, vintage-inspired pieces. However, the few times I’ve been in a store that actually carried the line, I’ve never been able to bring myself to purchase anything; the prices are beyond my comfort zone, and when it comes to things that are vintage-inspired… go straight to the cow for milk, yeah? My first online run-through of the Spring/Summer line didn’t make my limbs twitch (which did happen when I recently  came upon a certain pair of shiny Lanvin oxford pumps), but after a second and then a third look, I became intrigued with the ruffle work in two garments. First: the “ruffle x blouse.” In my mind, this is what I look like when I write. Nevermind that I do nearly all of my work on a 12″ PowerBook. I’d rather be lounging on a couch, pages open to a hoooorrrribly moving snatch of dialogue, a ruffle coming perilously close to tickling my chin. (The sacrifices we make for a good ruffle-pose.) The plate of bread nearby is also tempting.

Here we get a look at the back of the “ruffle x lace blouse,” which seems to be a more seductive cousin of the plainer ruffle blouse in the first photo. The small explosion of lace is appealing; no way would I want to hide that under a jacket. (Let it be known here that I seldom wear cardigans, and own perhaps one.) In the meantime, I’ll keep lusting…
