5. A Little Push (Up)

Creatures of Comfort is clearing out some merchandise to make room for new arrivals. Right now I’m charmed by this mirror watch, marked down to $36 from $120 – it’s so simple that I can’t figure out whether it’s modern or old-fashioned, and I like that fine line between the two. I went through a phase a few years back where I was more interested in lingerie. Although I never ventured to Agent Provocateur or La Perla, I did explore realms beyond the tried-and-true black, white, and flesh-toned things that I now wear, and in no era have I ever thought much about the phenomenon of the push-up bra. Until now.

Chris and I went to one of my favorite brunch places a few weeks ago, and neither of us could stop looking at the new, very French, very long-lashed hostess who called our names and sat us by the window. It took me a little while to realize that the source of her allure lay chiefly in her carriage; her posture was impeccable and she seemed to be wearing some sort of super-undergarment, perhaps a push-up bra, that caused her bust to defy gravity Marie Antoinette-style. Awesome! I immediately started imagining what I would look like with a push-up bra on, and although I don’t own many low-cut tops, the silhouette, methinks, would be worth it. Right now I’ve got this Calvin Klein one on my Wish List. (Since we’ve returned to the café, I’ve seen the hostess in an Alice Temperley for Target sweater that I also own, and the effect was stunning.)

push up bras are awesome. what you REALLY want, though, is a push-up balconette bra (try gap body).
