4. Trunk Show

For a self-professed clothes horse, I haven’t thought much about what I’m going to wear to my wedding next summer, and since I should probably be on the ball about these things, I finally took the first step and made an appointment to go to a trunk show this weekend.

I suppose I am slightly exaggerating when I say that I have never looked at or thought about wedding dresses before. My lovely future mother-in-law bought me a giant pink magazine full of pictures (in the worst-case scenario: cut-outs! plunging necklines! tons of makeup!), and the owner of my favorite vintage shop (Retro Active in New Orleans, in case you were wondering) showed me a handful of dresses a certain ex-boho-wearing, Jude-Law-dating celeb had looked at when she was thinking of tying the knot. The problem is that while I lean towards vintage styling, I’ve developed a superstitious aversion to buying a secondhand wedding dress – unless I could somehow be assured that the previous owner had a wonderful marriage.

So therein lies the trouble for now. While awaiting my fate at the trunk show (updates coming as they happen), I’ve been checking out perennial favorite The Frock, a website of magical vintage delights ranging from the Victorian and Edwardian to the 90s. The photography on their website reminds me of wandering through a museum in which I am reminded that I might never get to wear an actual gown again, so why not take the chance while I can?
