Schlumpy Feelings

August 19th, 2008 § 1 Comment

I bought the following shoes today downtown and clomped around them for the first time as the statement piece to the same outfit I’ve been wearing all summer: black slip, white Kova & T tee-shirt. As the weather is unpredictable, I’ve also donned a light cardigan; lately I’m having Issues with my hair, so I’ve decided to wear a hat until I can do something about it. I’ve been feeling ridiculously schlumpy lately. Chris is leaving tomorrow morning.

Brief Note: eBay Sales

I just want to briefly mention that the yellow dress from a few posts back is up on eBay right now, along with another two dresses and a pair of fine shoes with triple bows on them.

The Urban Collection

August 16th, 2008 § 1 Comment

While Nasty Gal’s new website has been getting a lot of attention, the new-ish debut of The Urban’s Collection’s Fall 2008 sale has been getting a little less press (at least, in the blogs that I peruse). The prices are comparable, meaning sort of high, but with the state of “high-end” vintage on eBay these days, none of these prices make my eyebrows go up anymore — plus there are pieces like a Lanvin puffy shrug and a smart Christian Dior blazer. There are still a fair number of unsold pieces, so check them out, if, like me, you are held fast to only window-shopping at this juncture.

Outfit of the Day: 8.15.08

August 15th, 2008 § 7 Comments

  • Headband: F21
  • Blouse: Built by Wendy (eBay)
  • Skirt: UOutfitters
  • Boots: UOutfitters
When I put this outfit on in the  morning, Chris said, “I’ve never seen that top before,” which is pretty unusual given that I remix the same bits of clothing over and over again. But this poor BBW top — and don’t get me started on my feelings about BBW and their high prices and shoddy production values — hasn’t seen the light of day much because even though it seems to fit me fine, I’ve always been frustrated by its weirdly short torso. Even with the high-waisted skirt that I wore with it today, I still end up flashing a bit of skin. I’ve considered selling this top on eBay a million times, and yet I always hold onto it because a.) it was the top I wore to my college graduation dinner b.) I love the flowy angel sleeves, which are not apparent in the photograph.

After brunch today Chris and I spent what must have been at least an hour in a used toy-and-bookstore (Kaleidoscope on 200 N. Fourth Avenue, Ann Arbor) crammed with things. I ended up buying a Ladies Home Journal from 1931, which I will undoubtedly be sharing bits of here.

Outfit of the Day: 8.13.08

August 13th, 2008 § 4 Comments

  • Knit hat: Therapy on Castro
  • Coyote tooth earrings: DIY
  • Leotard top: somewhere in Japan
  • Green skirt: street stall in Taiwan, where I also bought a matching pleated green skirt
  • Cardigan: UOutfitters
  • Bag: secondhand Aldo
  • Rosette flats: somewhere in Taiwan

I’ve been in a style rut ever since my hair went straight; for some reason I never feel as sassy as I do when I have a big ol’ head of curls. I have an appointment with a salon for after Chris leaves. Until then, I’ll probably be rocking lots of hats and headbands.

Last Taste of Summer

August 13th, 2008 § 1 Comment

The combination of finding really cute little spring/summer/easily-switchable-to-fall dresses and other goodies out here (like the butter yellow darling above) and my frustration with the fact that I didn’t buy enough coat hangers or dresser space for all of my clothes equals the fact that I’ve been taking lots of pictures for one big eBay sale, which should be happening sometime in the near future.

Right now Chris and I are listening to the Big Band & Swing station on TV. I can’t remember if I said on here that I actually got TV for the first time since high school (it was included with the Internet), and for the first few days we were here and had it we completely OD’d on “From G’s to Gents” and “America’s Best Dance Crew,” as well as the Olympics. But now we sit around and read and listen to the Singers & Standards station in the background.

We did half a hamper of laundry today with Woolite and generic fabric softener (that was all that would fit in the sink — and I’m glad, because we ended up using up the entire drying rack, the shower rod, and a clothesline that Chris set up in the bathroom). Chris says my arms are going to get really strong if I keep this up.

Where Am I?
