apology

I wanted to apologize for being away from this space for so long. Personal issues have sucked up all of my energy and left me with little brain-space to think about clothes or how I dress. I wear the same thing over and over again these days. I don’t know how long it will take me to be rejuvenated, but here is a picture of Lydia and a bunch of cupcakes we made a while back, to keep you company.
bits

I gathered together a bunch of my necklaces and, with a pair of pliers, twisted and tied them all together. I’m not sure how I feel about it, but it killed some time while I watched “Become Paris Hilton’s BFF,” or whatever that show is called. Today I just wanted to do nothing and relax.
Chris sent me this adorable card in the mail today (mentioned earlier). I didn’t know it was coming, so I was pretty excited to receive a package.
lugging

Today, after watching two episodes of “House” and eating breakfast on the couch, I went out to the local antique mall to look for something that could serve as clothes-storage without being a dresser. And when I found a corner bookcase that cost $25, I decided that would do. Then, because I am apparently not very bright, and because I don’t have a car and didn’t think it was worth paying $40 for delivery, I decided to lug the bookcase ten blocks home, even though I am not the strongest girl on the planet and felt silly doing it.
But! When I finally trudged through the door, I immediately called Chris to tell him how proud I was of myself. Later I received a surprise package from him: Free-Range Chickens, by Simon Rich, some Fashionable Dog stationery, and a cute card.
It’s gorgeous outside.

feathered plume
October 5th, 2008 § 2 Comments
This morning I bundled up (even though it wasn’t that cold, really — I’m switching out my wool coat today for my leather jacket) and headed out to the Etsy Craft Fair, out where the Ann Arbor Farmers Market usually is. It was a delightful assortment of the usual crafty goodness, including bowls made of used records and notebooks made of VHS covers. But my favorite was a stand owned by a seller from whom I ended up buying not one but two things: the above feathered headband and a gold choker with a huge bow on it; you can get the latter for yourself here. (It’s on sale for $8.)
I’m wearing the above ensemble (but swapped out the cardigan for my trusty boy’s blazer) to a brunch held by Katie today — the headband is in my hair, and looking a little subtler than it does in person.
fall back

I’m using my Californian winter coat as my Michigan fall coat. I finally turned on the heat in my apartment, and I’ve taken to making tiny steps toward the cooler weather — 110 denier stockings, warm hats, wool coats, and long underwear. I also finally ordered an LL Bean Ultrawarm Long Coat. Which brings me to a question for you, dear reader: what sort of snow boots should I purchase? Brand recommendations especially welcome!
Interesting first-person piece on Jezebel, passed on by my friend Anna: Why Lolita Fashion is Feminist.
Farmer’s market purchases of the day included broccoli, a basket of small apples (I asked the farmer to please explain the difference between the six types of apples that he was selling – it was really interesting!), white potatoes, pink dahlias, and a little bag of sweet-smelling basil.
