216. “Sit under the sun, Abdicate, And be your own King” (as in: winter coats)
December 7th, 2009 § 13 Comments

Well, the smell of diarrhea ice chips has dissipated thanks to frigid weather. At least, it’s not so cold that I have to wear my big puff coat and beaten up winter boots that aren’t even winter boots (and are now nearly ruined thanks to two Iowa winters and one more to go.) This tapestry coat is pretty old and I probably end up wearing it once or twice a year, but I was inspired lately by the ever-stylish Eyeliah of Style Symmetry and her amazing carpet jacket and her wonderful vintage coat.
I do love this coat, even if I feel no occasion to wear it. Look at the lining!
Tapestry coat from yonks ago, h&m shirtwaist dress, vintage Dexter boots & Hansel from Basel ribbed tights.
Meggy’s big white coat has inspired me to put on my red riding hood coat that every girl praises and every boy makes fun of savagely.

Red riding hood coat from UO, also yonks ago.
And here’s the coat that I have been wearing just about every day ever since I wore it as part of my very poor-taste Halloween costume.
70′s Faux fur coat from the super nice Etsy seller: Groovin Tuesday
Under my 70s coat, I tried to wear one of the 50′s dresses I bought from the astoundingly good estate sale I went to a few weeks ago. I don’t want to give it up, but it’s too big and doesn’t look right on me. I should just list it on Etsy and send it off to a lady who can do this dress justice.
So there you go, a few of my winter jackets & now off to buy peanut butter ice cream in the middle of the night.
Love, Jenny

oh gosh! all soooo amazing!
)
Oh my goodness, you have some beautiful coats! I unfortunately never lived anywhere for long where I needed a coat, so I have one sad black pea coat that is about the rot with mold because it’s so old. HAHA. LOVE LOVE the tapestry coat!
LOVE the vintage colored pictures! the first one & the red coats are gorgeous.
i loovee the interior of the first coat! i wish i could wear coats like that in Miami!!
Oh fabulous coats (especially that red jacket – so adorable), that first one is very reminiscent of my carpet jacket too.
Amazing! Each coat is so uniquely beautiful! I also love each outfit underneath.
Thank you for visiting/commenting on my blog Jenny! I really enjoyed you and meggy blog and will come visit again!
Wonderful Jackets, I especially love the first and second one!

I just noticed your comment over at my blog!!! I’ve mailed your 1950s vintage dress to you today and should be getting it very soon!
P.S. Love your blog and you’re just too adorable!
xoxo
you are so freakin’ adorable and all your outfits are so stunning! i see from your shop on the side that the estate sales are going well.
have you been able to find one as good as your first yet?
all of those coats are amazing, i especially love the 70s faux fur one. it looks like a dream on you! ps: i love your blog!
i absolutely love your coat collection, especially that tapestry coat with the gorgeous lining
Thanks, Jenny! It is good to know there are other writers/vintage style lovers out there. To me, the two go hand in hand – as writers, we’re more likely to want to dress like a ‘character.’ We know how closely physical appearance and character are intertwined.

And I totally forgot to say this, but I love your boots.
i am in LOVE with the first tapestry coat and have been perpetually searching for one just like it with no luck, which is how i came across your blog. Where did you find it? And do you know where I could find one like it? Cause that would be awesome.
Beautiful coat collection too btw, love em all.
