221. Hi old clothes, sorry to have abandoned you for so many years, I’m back to wear you now.

Meggy is a busy bee & I’m a slothful leaf. I should be busy too but strange, almost-disturbing dreams, anxiety that feels himalayan, and an intense desire for distraction is keeping me from working well.
Since my last two outfit posts included old clothes that are seriously gathering dust, I decided that I’m going to try and incorporate one article of clothing from my teenage/college years into my daily outfit from now on. Like most of my endeavors, I’ll probably get bored with it in a few days, but we’ll see how long it lasts.
When I was a junior and senior in high school, I used to wear scarves around my neck all the time because my mom wore scarves around her neck all the time. My mom thought her neck was too long, and I thought my mom was divine. For senior superlatives, I was voted Most Individual and in the yearbook photo, I’m wearing this super long floral scarf, my mom’s sheer grey top, my mom’s shiny skirt, and these ridiculous combat boots I secretly ordered from a catalog behind my parents back.
My mom bought me these Diane von Furstenberg wedges because I begged her to and then I wore them once, got bad blisters & never wore them again. Fairly typical behavior back then & still typical now.
I got this lace cotton dress at a vintage store in San Francisco. It buttons up the back and has really pretty pintuck and ruffle details that the photos don’t capture. I wore it a few times to try to seduce boys when I was eighteen…
I’m also wearing a silver peanut bracelet that my grandmother gave me because I love snacks, and a little gold ring that a four year old Hungarian girl gave me when I was teaching English in a Romanian village, and a ring from an antique shop in Scotland that my friend Colin gave me, but he first rubbed it in dirt before mailing it.
Oh, and the tights are Givenchy, also from the same outlet mall where I bought my DVF sandals. Impressively, they’ve remained intact for over eight years. Wish I could say the same about the crummy tights I’ve bought since.
Anyone else going to their parents’ house for the holidays & desire to join me in revisiting our sartorial past?
Love, Jenny

Luv ur dress!! : )
Thanks lady!
Lucky you to have all those items from your younger years!
Also, Your 3.99 dress is so pretty! I love the ruffle part of it!

You’re lucky to be such a cutie!
you taught English in a Romanian village? It’s one of my goals to visit Romania someday.
My mum always wear a dupatta (scarf) around her neck to cover her bosom, cos she says she wants to be “modest,” which I find totally hilarious.
Hey–Romania’s pretty cool, once you get over how depressingly poor the people there are, and the weird hierarchy of Hungarians who have been living in Romania forever (comparatively wealthier than everyone else,) Romanians in Romania (poorer,) gypsies (insanely hated on and dirt poor.)
Your mom sounds kinda cute!
god, i love givenchy tights. this is totally reminding me that i should make the pilgrimage to century 21 while i’m in nyc.
Where in NY will you be? I’ve never really shopped or had luck at Century 21… my head spins after 10 minutes!
i’m staying in prospect heights with friends. one has to be in a very specific mood to deal with the madness that is c21 the week before xmas, but i went yesterday and got three pairs of amazing givenchy tights and some lovely xmas gifts. if one has the cash, they’ve got some amazing deals on designer clothes [example: i saw a lovely, silk stella mccartney dress marked down from $2000 to $600].
oooh, love your ensemble. isn’t it strange how things you wore so long ago become interesting again? old clothes sometimes have souls i think. that white dress is beautiful and still great for seducing boys in
. i have a pair of givenchy knee highs that have held up through thick and thin too! going back to the ‘rents for xmas and will definitely try joining you on a journey into time…
It is lovely how old things become so beautiful if you forget about them for a while (sadly true for people too sometimes–I shouldn’t say that but I will!)
I can’t wait to see what your fashion past looks like
those tights look fabulous with your delicate white dress. hope you were able to successfully seduce a number of boys with that dress
Ha, I bet I ended up seducing .01 boy, you know when you seduce someone’s fingernail but not the rest of them? Kidding.
thats a good plan! I really like your outfit, super cute.
Thanks! I hope you are finally feeling unsick.
