221. Hi old clothes, sorry to have abandoned you for so many years, I’m back to wear you now.

Meggy is a busy bee & I’m a slothful leaf. I should be busy too but strange, almost-disturbing dreams, anxiety that feels himalayan, and an intense desire for distraction is keeping me from working well.

Since my last two outfit posts included old clothes that are seriously gathering dust, I decided that I’m going to try and incorporate one article of clothing from my teenage/college years into my daily outfit from now on.  Like most of my endeavors, I’ll probably get bored with it in a few days, but we’ll see how long it lasts.

When I was a junior and senior in high school, I used to wear scarves around my neck all the time because my mom wore scarves around her neck all the time.  My mom thought her neck was too long, and I thought my mom was divine.  For senior superlatives, I was voted Most Individual and in the yearbook photo, I’m wearing this super long floral scarf, my mom’s sheer grey top, my mom’s shiny skirt, and these ridiculous combat boots I secretly ordered from a catalog behind my parents back.

My mom bought me these Diane von Furstenberg wedges because I begged her to and then I wore them once, got bad blisters & never wore them again.  Fairly typical behavior back then & still typical now.

I got this lace cotton dress at a vintage store in San Francisco. It buttons up the back and has really pretty pintuck and ruffle details that the photos don’t capture.  I wore it a few times to try to seduce boys when I was eighteen…

I’m also wearing a silver peanut bracelet that my grandmother gave me because I love snacks, and a little gold ring that a four year old Hungarian girl gave me when I was teaching English in a Romanian village, and a ring from an antique shop in Scotland that my friend Colin gave me, but he first rubbed it in dirt before mailing it.

Oh, and the tights are Givenchy, also from the same outlet mall where I bought my DVF sandals.  Impressively, they’ve remained intact for over eight years.  Wish I could say the same about the crummy tights I’ve bought since.

Anyone else going to their parents’ house for the holidays & desire to join me in revisiting our sartorial past?

Love, Jenny
